Before We Could Be

Before we could be, there was only a vision
Before we could be, I relied only upon hope
Before we could be, I knew not what I was missing
Before we could be, I had so little

First my admiration and then a quick glance
First my admiration and then nights of uncomfortable uncertainty
First my admiration and then a sincere smile
First my admiration and then bone-rattling regret
First my admiration and then a single tear
First my admiration and then a long overdue prayer
One million doubters with one million questions soon to follow

Before we could be, there was only a vision
Before we could be, I relied only upon hope
Before we could be, I knew not what I was missing
Before we could be, I had so little

Still my admiration, this glance now more a gaze
Still my admiration, I question all that I once accepted as truth
Still my admiration, forever a space reserved in this heart that is now yours
Still my admiration, the risks I soon will take
Still my admiration, thoughts of losing you haunt my dreams
Still, my admiration, midnight conversations with God soothe me over
One million doubters with one million questions bombarding us from all directions

Before we could be, there was only a vision
Before we could be, I relied only upon hope
Before we could be, I knew not what I was missing
Before we could be, I had so little

Forever my admiration, this gaze a mirror for you of such happiness I never knew
Forever my admiration, plus love, plus so much ingenuous love
Forever my admiration, today, tomorrow, until the end of time
Forever my admiration, my heart, tender as it is, beats only for you
Forever my admiration, once uncertain, once fearful, now just forever grateful
Forever my admiration, coupled with blessings and thanksgivings, I feel whole
One million doubters, turned believers, with one million questions successfully answered

Admiring someone first from afar first and then, as you really got to know her, falling into a deep and passionate love. Despite the circumstances and the restrictions that should you apart, you are driven towards each other. What results from that is the most wonderful, intense, and meaningful relationship that you could have ever known. I think that this poem proves true that taking a chance on something that would seem by many to be doomed from the start can end up being the great decision that you ever could make.
